Towns print food
Houses, sheds, and fruit trees keep you alive. If your blood and food are low, military can wait. DayZ is still survival.
Police stations in towns are a PvP magnet. Grab a shotgun if you must, then leave. Do not live there.

The road between is the graveyard
Open fields between towns are sniper lanes. Walk treelines. DayZ deaths to boredom shots are real.
Do not cook in the middle of a military. Smoke is a waypoint. Eat elsewhere.
